It only takes a moment

for all of life to come to a standstill. My middle sister was in a serious car wreck yesterday and her Escape was totalled. She walked away with only a silver-dollar sized bruise where the side airbag hit her hip. 2 merging cars from the on-ramp forced her car into the rail and it flipped and skidded upside down down the freeway.

A state patrolman was on the frontage road and saw the whole thing. He started running when she flipped and was there when she stopped skidding. She said she was hanging upside down and could not get her seatbelt undone and all she wanted to do was get out of the car before it caught fire.

A woman who saw the whole thing came up and held her and hugged her and would not let go of her. But my sis walked away. And for that, I thank God. I told her I will be up there Friday and I'm going to hug her non-stop too!

It only takes a moment to flip a car, skid upside down a highway. It only takes a moment to lose a life. Today, I am just grateful for the moments I have left with my husband because I truly do love him.

Thank God your sister is okay, but still, what a frightening experience! It does make a person realize how precious and fragile life is and that there are no guarantees of longevity, even for the healthy people in our lives. I focus on my husband's health so much that I forget that any one of us could be gone before him.

Once I got past the frightening mental images, your posting made me feel better about my day. I spent most of the day with friends and family and hubby and didn't get much done on my to-do list. I was beating myself up a bit over that when I read your posting and realized that taking the time to listen to and talk with these people was a lot more important my than scrubbing the floor and picking cucumbers. Thanks for the wake-up call!

scurbbing floors and picking cucumbers? OK....I no longer "scrub"....I lightly mop just enough to get the noticeable dirt off! LOL! And I have no garden...just strawberries and raspberries and I feed the local birds and squirrels with them!

I've decided I'd much rather sit and chat with friends! :o)
